About
Artist | Bandleader. Joelle Lurie is a vocalist, songwriter, voiceover artist and bandleader. Her vocal range and unique ability to switch between musical genres with ease prompted Michael Feinstein to call her "a chameleon" in the one-hour NPR feature he hosted about her on his show, “Song Travels”. She performs an extensive catalog of The Great American Songbook as well as contemporary and original jazz/pop songs as a solo artist and with the bands she co-founded, Joelle Lurie Band (formerly Joelle & The Pinehurst Trio) and JoJo & The Pinecones, a popular band for family audiences. She maintains a busy performance schedule of concerts and special events in the U.S. and abroad. Highlights include her regular longtime residency at the iconic Tavern on The Green in NYC, as well as performances at Lincoln Center, The Rainbow Room, Rockefeller Center, Birdland Jazz Club, Regattabar, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Lollapalooza, James Beard Foundation Gala’s, and more. With a background in classical training and opera, and an ability to sing in contemporary genres, Joelle has been in demand for voiceovers, recordings, demos, TV/commercial work, jingles, theater, festivals and more. Based in Boston and New York City, she grew up in Weston Massachusetts. Her music is available on iTunes & Spotify. She fell in love with music by listening to Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald and Julie London during her teens; they still inspire her today.
Educator: Joelle earned her Bachelor of Music from Boston University’s College of Fine arts, and received additional training at Indiana University’s School of Music, New Contemporary & Commercial Music Vocal Pedagogy Institute at Shanandoah University, Tanglewood and New England Conservatory Preparatory School. A grant recipient of Lincoln Center Education, the education arm of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in NYC, Joelle developed an educational program, performed, and led jazz workshops for numerous school groups as an Artist-in-Residence. Her family band, JoJo & The Pinecones, was developed through their residency with Lincoln Center Education as well. She holds a private studio as a vocal instructor and teaches her students in person and virtually. A dedicated teacher, mentor and vocal producer, Joelle enjoys teaching all levels from beginner to advanced. Her vocal studio consists of professional singers, actors and bandleaders, as well those just learning and/or singing for joy.
ENTREPRENEUR. Joelle co-founded her band in 2009 with Ben Gallina, which began when the musicians all lived on the same block of Pinehurst Avenue in Washington Heights in NYC. They played extensively throughout NYC and the US, and in 2013, used their momentum to start their business arm, Pinehurst Music Inc., which is now a boutique booking agency providing live music for high end special events around the country. Her agency books her own bands as well as a roster of other musicians and ensembles which offer all genres, from jazz to pop to classical, including string quartets, solo instrumentalists, professional singers and bands.
